MTRWestern is an industry leading charter bus rental service in the Pacific Northwest. As such, we strive to provide clients with the absolute best transportation options for short or long-distance travel. As of 2021, we began road testing a brand new, 100% electric bus with plans of incorporating it into our fleet. The Vanhool CX45E provides us the ability to offer greener transportation and hopefully helps us set the standard for other charter bus companies throughout the nation.
What Are the Benefits of Going Electric?
Electric vehicles are substantially more environmentally friendly than other forms of transportation. Because they produce zero emissions, EVs dramatically reduce greenhouse gas emissions, smog, and other air pollutants – creating a healthier environment for both society and wildlife.
Electric vehicles are also more affordable in the long-term since they require little maintenance and use EV charging stations over petrol.
Why Does MTRWestern Plan to Use the Vanhool CX45E?
The Vanhool CX45E is a 100% emissions-free electric bus that features some of the most advanced technology we’ve seen in modern electric vehicles. As such, MTRWestern has decided to implement the Vanhool CX45E into our fleet as a means of furthering our hopes for a greener future in group travel.
What Is MTRWestern’s Charter Bus Electrification Project?
MTRWestern’s Charter Bus Electrification Project was designed with the help of two environmental non-profit organizations as a means to create more eco-friendly transportation options in the PNW. With their assistance, MTRWestern was able to secure one of the first CX45E busses brought to the U.S.
MTRWestern purchased its last internal combustion vehicle in 2021 and our goal with this project is to make up to 15% of our fleet fully electric by 2025 – a goal we are actively working toward now!
Electric Busses Vs Gas Powered: What’s the Difference?
Electric vehicles look exactly like internal combustion vehicles on the exterior, but inside is a different story.
While an internal combustion engine utilizes heat from the ignited fuel source to operate, electric busses use a battery to generate power for the vehicle to function. Electric vehicles, like the Vanhool CX45E, are 100% powered by their internal battery, meaning absolutely zero fuel is used to operate it.

Everything from the weight of the vehicle to the interior design and built-in amenities have been carefully planned and implemented for an optimal travel experience. Below are just some of the features you can expect with a Vanhool CX45E.
Less Maintenance = Less Cost
Because internal combustion vehicles require fuel, oil changes, and feature numerous moving parts that often require fixes or replacing, things can get not only costly, but also time-consuming in cases when something goes wrong.
With the Vanhool CX45E, very little maintenance is required to keep the bus functioning at 100%, eliminating much of the time and cost it takes to operate.
Eco-Friendliness
Because the Vanhool CX45E is a zero-emissions bus, it helps us drastically reduce our carbon footprint during travel and is overall significantly better for the environment.
Cutting-Edge Technology
The Vanhool CX45E uses a 648 kWh battery system that provides energy to spare for max range and power. In addition to being substantially faster to charge than most EVs, the CX45E’s battery is also designed to withstand even the harshest weather conditions and features built-in safety mechanisms.
Space and Comfort
The Vanhool CX45E measures at 45-feet and can seat up to 56 passengers, making it perfect for larger group travel and spacious enough to keep everyone comfortable for the journey ahead.
Extended Drive Times
The CX45E can travel an impressive 186 miles before requiring a charge, making it great for extended travel with our charter bus service.
